Why You Should Take This Class

Pivot Tables work like magic — they let you make sense of large data sets simply by using the mouse to indicate what you want to know and where you want to see it (that’s the pivoting). Used effectively, they help ou make data-driven business decisions. But they can also be really frustrating if you don’t know the proper incantations to make them work.

This class shows you step by step how to get your data from where it is to where you want it to be. We start with how to make sure things are set up correctly, then build and modify the Pivot Table and end with tools you can use to make the results easy for you and your colleagues to read and interpret. Throughout, we focus not just on HOW to do things, but also WHY, so you can apply what you learn to your own projects.

The workshop will answer the following questions:

  • What can Excel Pivot Tables do, and when should I use them?
  • What input data are needed for a Pivot Table to produce the information I need?
  • How can I create an Excel Pivot Table?
  • Where and how do I specify the calculations I want my Pivot Table to make?
  • How do I keep my Pivot Table up to date?
  • How can I make my Pivot Table results easy to read and interpret?
