SCALING IMAGES NUMERICALLY.
Although Photoshop's "Scale" command (one of four choices in the "Effects" command under the "Image" menu) does not provide a method for numerically specifying an exact percentage of enlargement or reduction, you can achieve the same result with the "Show Info" palette ("Window" menu). To do so --
- Open the Show Info palette before beginning the scaling process.
- Choose the "Scale" command. A pair of numbers will be added at the bottom of the palette. Initially they will both be 100%.
- Perform the scaling as usual by dragging one of the control handles in the corners of the box surrounding your selection.
As you drag the handles, the numbers will change indicating the percent of horizontal and vertical change. Stop dragging when the desired numbers are reached.

CUSTOMIZING PALETTES.
Photoshop ships with its tool palettes grouped in several floating windows -- for example, the layers, channels and paths palettes are together. You can customize these groupings to suit your own style of working.
To move a palette to its own window, grab it on its tab, drag it from its window and release it anywhere outside an existing palette window. To move it to another existing palette window, grab it on its tab and drag it to the center of that window.
