Java Basics

DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for web-site designers who want to learn how to incorporate Java applets into their web pages. Class discussion and exercises cover --
What Java is and how it is different from JavaScript,
How Java relates to HTML and CGI scripts,
What Java applets can do,
What tools you can use to create Java applets,
HTML tags used to incorporate a Java applet into a web page,
Designing a Java page to accommodate non-Java browsers,
Use of HTML parameters to control an applet,
Making an applet read data from an external file,
Modifying and recompiling an existing applet,
Creating a simple applet from scratch.

6 hours, $260 (available for Windows and Macintosh).

PREREQUISITES
A sufficient knowledge of HTML to create a web page, insert graphics and links, and specify attributes for tags. A familiarity with the basics of computer programming is helpful, although this is not a programming class.
