Microsoft Excel Dashboards Course

What You Will Learn

Dashboards are Excel worksheets that summarize data and present them in tables and charts. People use them to produce executive summaries, interactively manipulate data during meetings and presentations, and produce visuals for internal and public distribution. The goal is to distill large amounts of quantitative information into easy-to-read, easy-to-use summaries.

This course shows you how to build a dashboard from scratch. Class discussion and hands-on exercises cover —

  • What a dashboard can do and how you can use it,
  • How to plan a dashboard,
  • How to enter and update dashboard data by copying and pasting, import macros and linking to external data sources,
  • Including charts on the dashboard,
  • Adding Tables and Pivot Tables to the dashboard,
  • How to filter data interactively with Slicers,
  • Building Combo Boxes people can use to change dashboard settings interactively,
  • How to build dynamic messages that change as the data change,
  • Using conditional formatting, functions and the Paste Linked Picture feature to highlight key information,
  • Adding visual elements using Excel’s drawing tools, and
  • Testing the dashboard.

6 hours, $260 (available for Windows and Macintosh)

Why You Should Take This Class

Information overload is a peculiar problem of our age — as the quantity of information produced has grown exponentially, our ability to absorb it has remained unchanged. Excel dashboards help us close this gap by enabling us to visualize large data sets, highlight key metrics, and interactively update the display to show different scenarios.

This workshop starts by explaining what dashboards can do and how they can be used, and then building several dashboards using various Excel tools.

The workshop will answer the following questions:

  • How can data dashboards make my work easier and help me communicate complex and rapidly changing information?
  • What information should I put on my dashboard?
  • How can I update or change a dashboard’s data set?
  • How can I give non-technical people tools so that they can share a dashboard?
